"Is it really worth it?"
It's a question that we get asked repeatedly, "Is it REALLY worth taking toddlers to Walt Disney World since they might not remember anything?" And for us, the answer is always the same. An enthusiastic and resounding, "Yes!" Let's face it, memories aren't typically made on a Tuesday while going to the grocery store. They are made with unique and memorable EXPERIENCES. And that is what Walt Disney World is all about, making memories with unique experiences. And it doesn't hurt that children under age 3 are FREE!
And maybe your children ARE too young to remember. So what? I promise, in a few years, you will be looking back fondly on the early years with your children. And Disney has a way of making sure that you remember your time in their parks and resorts. Even if your trip isn't perfect, you will probably find yourself thinking about your next trip to Lake Buena Vista, Florida before checking out of the hotel.
A different perspective:
Children grow up so fast, their interests change by the month, if not the week, and even if they are not HUGE Disney fans (like us), they will LOVE every minute of a vacation to Walt Disney World. Even if they are less than a year old. Ours sure did, and we have the pictures to prove it.
What we have found is that going to the parks in the early years of our children's lives produces a much different experience with each new visit. We don't live near Orlando, Florida so our kids are very different people each time we make the trip because of the time in-between. That means with each new visit to Walt Disney World they have new favorite characters, want to try new fun rides, they have different tastes which leads to trying new restaurants, and more. It is a different trip each time. Everything is still new. And there is nothing like seeing genuine wonderment and excitement in the eyes of your children which makes everything so much more enjoyable.

If you wait until your children are much older they will already be familiar with all of the Disney characters. They might already know what types of rides they do and don't like making them less likely to explore certain attractions. So much of Walt Disney World is designed and created for young children between 1-5, it would a shame for them NOT to get a chance to experience the Disney theme parks during this time of their lives. Whether you take photos yourself or use the Disney PhotoPass service, you are guaranteed to come home with images with iconic characters and classic rides that you will cherish for your entire life. Waiting until your children are older means it is more likely that each passing trip will become repetitive. And they will be much more vocal and have many more opinions of how the trip should unfold. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing or something to be discouraged, it simply does not compare to experiencing pure joy with your small children EVERY TIME they see a Disney character or when they want to ride the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, or Prince Charming Regal Carrousel for the tenth time in a row.
Your kids are only young once. You are only young once. If you are still 'on the fence' about whether you should take your kids to Walt Disney World, all we can say is, we have never heard ANYONE that we encouraged to make the trip say anything other than that the trip was "magical" and that they couldn't believe they ever considered not going.
Yes it is tiring, yes it is hot, and yes it is crowded. But it is so memorable and so much fun for everyone. And with Emerson's tips and recommendations you will maximize your fun and might even save some money on your trip.

The surprising takeaway:
We have found that visiting with toddlers provides MORE freedom and flexibility not LESS, which seems counterintuitive. When they get cranky and tired, they can rest or sleep in their stroller while you explore the park. They are happy to be along for the ride, so you can dictate where you spend your time, what restaurants to try, and how long you stay at the parks. You can easily decide which parks to visit and when without worrying about disappointing anyone. While these may seem like trivial things, it eliminates a certain level of stress. And if you do make the trip to Disney World with toddlers, I promise you will see more families 'melting-down' with children from 9-15 years of age than you will with young kids.
